Ingredients

There is a long list of ingredients in this pre-workout supplement. We’ve taken a closer look to see what these do and how they contribute to a boost in performance on the gym floor.

Pre Jym pre-workout supplement ingredients

Citrulline Malate

The first main ingredient in Pre JYM is Citrulline Malate (6g per serving). Citrulline is an essential amino acid and Citrulline Malate is the form available in supplements. It has been shown that this ingredient can help reduce fatigue and improve endurance during exercise. One serving contains a large dose of this compound for maximum benefit.

Despite the potentially positive effects of Citrulline Malate on workout performance, taking this may present side effects for people with kidney disease. So if you are taking any medication or have a medical condition, it is best to consult with your doctor before taking high doses of Citrulline Malate.

L-Leucine

Leucine is an essential amino acid. This means that our bodies are not able to produce it. So we get it from our diet and by taking supplements.

Each serving of Pre Jym contains 3g of L-Leucine, which is the natural version of the amino acid. It provides energy for the body and it is mainly used for improving strength during workouts. It is also used by our body for building muscle.

However, research has also found that supplementing with L-Leucine could decrease serotonin production. A neurotransmitter, deficiency of which has been linked to serious health issues such as depression.

A study has also identified that taking high levels of this amino acid can lead to an increase in levels of ammonia in the blood. This can lead to potentially serious health issues such as liver disease. They have identified a maximum upper limit of 500mg per kg to prevent toxicity.

Pre Jym contains a lot less than this upper limit in a daily dose. However, it is worth being aware of the potential ill effects of L-Leucine over supplementation.

Creatine Hydrochloride

Creatine Hydrochloride is another key ingredient of this pre-workout supplement. One serving contains 2g. Creatine fuels muscle growth and allows your muscles to work harder. Creatine Hydrochloride is a form of Creatine, molecularly bound with hydrochloric acid. Once this form of Creatine reaches your stomach it is more water soluble and your body can break it down and absorb it much easier.

Beta-Alanine

Each serving of Pre JYM contains 2g of Beta-Alanine, another key ingredient of this pre-workout supplement. A number of studies have shown that this ingredient increases the amount of high-intensity work people can perform. However, it is not without its side effects. Consuming high doses of Beta-Alanine (over 800mg per serving) can result in a “pins and needles” feeling in the arms or neck called acute paresthesia. It can also cause a burning, itching, or flushed feeling on the scalp or ears.

As Pre JYM contains a whopping 2g of this ingredient per serving, this side effect is a likely one. Alos, if you take Beta-Alanine on an empty stomach, you may be more likely to experience this side effect.

Betaine

Betaine is an amino acid. Pre JYM contains 1.5g of this ingredient per serving. There are studies that showed that Betaine helps promote muscle gain and increase strength.

L-Valine and L-Isoleucine

L-Valine and L-Isoleucine are two essential amino acids of which Pre Jym contains 1.5g each in every serving. Research has linked L-Valine to promoting muscle growth and tissue repair while L-Isoleucine has been proven to play an important part in regulating blood sugar and energy levels.

L-tyrosine

This pre-workout supplement also contains a large dose of L-tyrosine (1.5g per serving). This ingredient’s primary function is to build proteins. It also plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy mood, combating stress and fatigue.

Taurine

Taurine is a conditional amino acid. This means that our bodies can make it, but we can also supplement it through our diet. Each serving of Pre JYM pre-workout supplement contains 1g of Taurine.

Taurine is thought to dampen the side effects of caffeine. However, the number of studies looking at the effects of taurine is limited.

Additional Ingredients

Pre JYM also contains 500mg of Beet Root Extract per serving.

Although there are some studies showing that Beet Root Extract can boost physical performance and may improve muscle power by increasing plasma nitrate levels, these studies are fairly small scale.

Pre JYM contains 300mg of caffeine per serving, a natural thermogenic stimulant. If you are only taking this one supplement, 300mg of caffeine is not too high of a dose. However, if you work out in the evening, taking this pre-workout late in the afternoon can cause problems with your sleep. Also, if you are taking other caffeine-containing supplements like fat burners, the amounts can add up quickly.

Potential side effects of Pre Jym pre-workout supplement

As Pre Jym pre-workout supplement is an all natural product, all ingredients and amounts are clearly stated on the label. So you don’t have to worry about hidden side effects.

However, due to the caffeine content of Pre Jym pre-workout supplement, it may not be for you if you are sensitive or allergic to caffeine. Also, be careful if you are taking other caffeine-containing supplements as the amounts can add up quickly.

Beta-Alanine is also known to cause side effects in higher doses, called acute paresthesia. This is a “pins and needles” feeling some people taking it can experience.

Our Verdict on Pre Jym pre-workout supplement

Pre JYM pre-workout supplement is a good product, part of the established JYM supplements range. After reviewing this product, we decided on a respectable 4 out of 5 stars.

The ingredients and amounts are clearly visible on the label. So you know exactly what you are taking. No unwanted side effects.

Unfortunately, some of the flavours available contain artificial sweeteners or flavours. This may give the product a stronger aftertaste. Plus artificial sweeteners don’t always work for everyone. Some people find they give them headaches and long-term side effects are still not well-documented.

Although this product contains caffeine, it’s not one of the main ingredients. With 300mg per serving, the amount is not too high on its own. However, make sure you consider any other supplement you may be taking alongside Pre Jym pre-workout supplement that also contains caffeine.

The ingredients and their amounts have been carefully put together to achieve maximum results. The main ingredients, L-Citrulline Dl-Malate and Creatine Monohydrate have both been shown by a number of research studies to reduce fatigue, improve endurance and increase performance effectively and in a safe way.

As a bonus, Pre Jym pre-workout supplement is also suitable for vegetarians.

All in all a good pre-workout product, but we have seen better ones out there without artificial sweeteners and other ingredients potentially causing side effects.
