Gonutrition BurnMax Fat Burner Review

BurnMax Fat Burner Review

BurnMax by Gonutrition is a thermogenic fat burner product. The company markets it as an “advanced thermogenic blend” which is very competitively priced. It all sounds great so far, but let’s dig a bit deeper to find out more about this fat burner. Read on for my full BurnMax fat burner review.

  • Contains some proven thermogenics like green tea and caffeine
  • No proprietary blend
  • Competitively priced
  • The company offers a 14-day money back guarantee and a 30-day exchange guarantee

  • Contains only moderate amounts of caffeine and green tea
  • No appetite suppressant in the formula
  • Lack of evidence supporting the benefits of L-tyrosine or Raspberry Ketones
  • The daily dosage can be confusing – different dose on training days an non-training days
  • Only available through the company’s website

What other people say about this product

The only customer reviews we found of BurnMax were on the company’s website. I’d always recommend taking these with a pinch of skepticism. Especially when there are no before and after photos, so you can’t really see the difference the product made.

One reviewer said they have not noticed anything other than feeling sick when taking the product, but when they have stopped, the lack of energy was noticeable. Other reviewers also commented on the energy boosting properties of this product before workouts, but have noticed little difference in terms of weight loss.

Other reviewers were not sure how long they would have to take it before they see a difference. They also added that their urine turned neon yellow after taking the products, which is rather alarming.

Finally, some reviewers had issues with sleep and headaches which are both likely to be caused by the caffeine in the product.

The lack of product reviews on other sites and social media raises the question as to how effective and popular this product is. Products that customers find effective are usually present on social media as customers want to shout about how good the product is.

Dosage – How to take this product

According to the company’s recommendation 3 capsules to be taken about 30 to 45 minutes before a workout on training days. On days when you don’t work out, 1 capsule is to be taken 3 times a day. This is to be evenly distributed throughout the day.

For a start this is very confusing. There is no recommendation of when to take this product in relation to meals. Should it be taken before meals, during or after? If before, then how long before a meal? I don’t seem to find an answer to this as all the suggestion says is to be evenly spread through the day.

In addition to this, it seems that on days when you workout you will get a high dose of ingredients once a day and then nothing for the rest of the day. The higher caffeine content will help with increasing the energy levels for the workout, but taking 3 doses at once will not ensure an even supply of ingredients to the body throughout the day.

Finally, if like me you tend to work out later on in the day, taking a higher dose of caffeine around 8 or 9 in the evening may mess with your sleep afterward.

A bottle of 90 capsules will cost you about £15 buying it through the company’s website which is a very competitive price. A bottle contains 90 capsules, so following the recommended daily serving of the company, a bottle of BurnMax will last you for 30 days.

There is also a small delivery charge for orders under £20.

Where can I buy it?

BurnMax only seems to be available through the company’s website. Although other products from this company are sold by other online supplement retailers, this particular fat burner doesn’t seem to be available from them.

The company offers a 14-day money back guarantee and a 30-day exchange guarantee, but be sure to read the terms and conditions before you commit to buy the product.

Top 3 recommended fat burners

BurnMax fat burner has a long list of ingredients, for all of which the amounts are clearly visible on the label. No secrets there, which is always a good start. With 18 active ingredients, this product is packed with an array of vitamins and thermogenics.

Gonutrition BurnMax Ingredients

B Vitamins

BurnMax fat burenr contains a high amount of B vitamins, especially Vitamin B12. A daily dose of 3 capsules contains more than 8 times the recommended daily allowance of this vitamin. However, B vitamins are water soluble and under normal circumstances, they are not stored in our body. Any extra over the amount your body needs will just be flushed down the toilet.

However, people with certain medical conditions may struggle to eliminate excess B vitamins from their body which can cause a build up. High amounts of B vitamins can make your pee turn bright yellow.

B vitamins are essential for the normal functioning of our bodies. They play a key role in making our immune system stronger, providing energy throughout the day and contributing to optimal cognitive functions just to mention a few.

B vitamins might give you a boost of energy, but they will not directly affect fat loss.

Green Tea Extract

One of the main ingredients in BurnMax is green tea, a natural thermogenic of which the product contains a moderate amount of (360 mg per 3 capsules). Together with caffeine, these natural stimulants help increase the body’s own metabolism to help it burn more fat. As with green tea, the caffeine content of the product is quite moderate at 200 mg per 3 capsules.

Although both of these ingredients are proven thermogenics, the amounts in the product are lower than those used in studies. For a fat burner to be effective, the amount of green tea is recommended to be around 500 mg per daily dose and the amount of caffeine somewhere between 250 and 300 mg per daily serving.

White Kidney Bean Extract

Another key ingredient in the formula is white kidney bean extract, a carbohydrate blocker that blocks the digestion of starches. It does this by inhibiting the activity of the digestive enzyme alpha amylase.

There have been a few human studies that showed that participants taking white kidney bean extract had reduced their body mass and more importantly their body fat1.

The studies showing favourable results used daily doses of over 400 mg whilst the formula only contains 300 mg of white kidney bean extract in a daily serving. So it may not be as effective as the dose used in the studies.

On another note, as this ingredient works by stopping the absorption of some of the carbohydrates you consume, it can also stop vitamins, nutrients, minerals or antioxidants from being absorbed in your body. They will simply pass through your body. This may not be such a good thing as your body needs the vitamins, minerals and nutrients from the food you eat to function properly.

The product also contains 200 mg of Choline in a daily dose of 3 capsules. Choline is a nutrient that has close ties with the B vitamin family. Recent research has shown that our body may not be producing sufficient amounts of this nutrient and we may need supplementation.

Research shows that Choline helps promote an increased rate of lipolysis in the liver and other organs. Therefore, helping the body burn fat faster and lowering cholesterol at the same time. On the other hand, according to studies the recommended daily dose for Choline to help achieve weight loss goals is somewhere between 300 and 500. However, BurnMax fat burner seems to only contain a moderate amount of it.

L-tyrosine is also a key ingredient in the formula of this product. A daily serving of 3 capsules contains 200 mg of L-tyrosine.

This ingredient is important in maintaining a healthy mood and fighting stress and fatigue. Some pre-workout supplements use it due to its energy boosting properties. However, in higher doses, it is also believed to facilitate weight loss by increasing the body’s metabolism.

Despite some promising research, there is still a lack of evidence supporting this amino acid’s positive effects on weight loss. The amount found in the formula is also relatively low.

Raspberry Ketones

Raspberry Ketones are also part of the formula (100 mg per 3 capsules). Some research conducted on animals has shown promising signs of raspberry ketones helping the body break down fat. However, to date, no human studies support the claims made by supplement manufacturers that raspberry ketones are the new miracle fat burners.

Supporting Ingredients

Cayenne pepper (50 mg per 3 capsules), green coffee extract (30 mg per 3 capsules) and black pepper extract (5 mg per 3 capsules) are supporting ingredients in this formula. They are all thermogenic ingredients, however, the amounts in the formula are relatively low.

As well as a thermogenic, cayenne pepper has also been shown to have some appetite suppressant properties. However, it is not as effective as some other natural appetite suppressants like glucomannan. Also, the amount of cayenne pepper in the formula is very low, therefore any appetite suppressant effect is negligible.

Potential side effects of BurnMax fat burner

The potential side effects of this product can come from caffeine. If you are intolerant or sensitive to caffeine this product may not be right for you.

L-tyrosine can also cause some side effects like restlessness, anxiety, and even insomnia. In large doses, heart palpitations can also occur.

Final Verdict on BurnMax fat burner

Following my full BurnMax review, I would give this product a respectable 3.5 out of 5 possible stars.

Ingredients and amounts are clearly visible on the label. It also contains effective, natural thermogenics like green tea and caffeine. However, the amounts in the daily dose seem to be moderate.

Choline has been found to help burn more fat, by increasing lipolysis. However, the amount in a daily dose is substantially less than the amount necessary to achieve weight loss.

The formula contains further ingredients like raspberry ketones, which many supplement manufacturers marketed as a miracle ingredient. However, they have little or no scientific evidence backing them.

The product doesn’t have an appetite suppressant component in the formula making it less effective than dual action fat burners. It contains a carbohydrate blocker (white kidney bean extract), but this does not suppress appetite. It may also prevent the absorption of valuable nutrients.

Uneven supply of ingredients throughout the day

Although the daily dose of 3 capsules should help ensure that there is an even supply of ingredients to the body throughout the day, this is not strictly true for this product.

Due to the different recommendations for training days and non-training days, you may take the 3 capsules all at once and then nothing for the rest of the day. This will not ensure an even supply of ingredients throughout the day. Taking the product too late in the day can also have an impact on your sleep.

On the whole, the product is not bad, but there are more balanced fat burners on the market. It could do with higher amounts of thermogenics in the formula and maybe an appetite suppressant instead of the carbohydrate blocker to be more effective.
