It can be difficult to find out how to take Shred JYM fat burner, as the directions on how to take it are open to interpretation.

You can take it 2-3 times per day meaning you can take two capsules at the same time. The only clear instruction is to take the 1st serving upon waking in the morning and not to take it within 6 hours of going to bed.

Shred JYM fat burner contains four main ingredients, a number of which are effective thermogenics. However, the US and the UK formula seems to differ slightly. The US formula contains Synephrine as an additional ingredient whilst the UK formula contains Schizandra Fruit instead.

Shred Jym Ingredients


Acetyl-L-carnitine is a form of an amino acid that is naturally produced in the body. The product contains a high dose of it – 1.5 g per 4 capsules. Acetyl-L-carnitine helps the body to produce energy. The company justifies using this form instead of the more commonly used L-carnitine as they claim that “this form of carnitine is absorbed better by the body than regular L-carnitine”.

A study from 2011 found supporting evidence that combined with low-intensity exercise, L-carnitine helps to reduce the body’s consumption of carbohydrates and instead uses more of the body’s fat stores to turn into energy. However, the effects of L-carnitine seem to be exercise intensity dependant.


The next main ingredient L-tyrosine’s primary function is to build proteins. It also plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy mood, combating stress and fatigue. Some pre-workout supplements use it to help you give a boost of energy. Some research suggests, that in higher doses it facilitates weight loss by increasing the body’s metabolism. Despite some promising research, there is still a lack of evidence supporting these amino acids’ positive effects on weight loss.

Green Tea Extract

The product also contains a high dose of green tea extract at 500 mg per 4 capsules. Green tea is an effective natural thermogenic used by many fat burner products out there. It is a safe and natural fat burner with high levels of antioxidants. The polyphenols in green tea help increase the body’s metabolism and therefore increasing the rate at which the body burns fat.


Caffeine works by increasing the catecholamine level in the blood. Catecholamines help to mobilise fat stores which in turn results in increased fat burning. Caffeine can also make you more alert and energetic which is great before workouts so you can perform at your best.

A number of research studies have focused on green tea and caffeine as natural stimulants and a number of them found supporting evidence of their fat burning properties.

Additional Ingredients

There are two additional supporting ingredients in both the UK and US formula. Cayenne pepper extract and Synephrine in the US formula and Cayenne pepper extract and Schizandra Fruit in the UK formula. There are only small doses of both these ingredients in the product.

The Cayenne pepper extract is acting both as a natural thermogenic accelerating the body’s metabolism which in return burns more fat and also acting as an appetite suppressant controlling cravings. However, due to the low dose the effectiveness of this ingredient is questionable.

Synephrine, a supporting ingredient is the active compound in bitter orange. Bitter orange and synephrine have both been linked to adverse side effects such as elevated heart rate, palpitations and in serious cases even heart attack. However, the amount of synephrine in the formula is on the low side.

Potential side effects of Shred JYM fat burner

There are side effects associated with synephrine such as increased blood pressure and elevated heart rate. These can be potentially dangerous when combining with stimulants like caffeine. However, the product only contains a very small dose of this ingredient (20 mg per 4 capsules) and it is only in the US formula.

L-tyrosine is also associated with side effects such as restlessness, anxiety, and even insomnia. In large doses, heart palpitations can also occur.

The most common side effects of this product can be caused by the caffeine content. If you are allergic or sensitive to caffeine, this product may not be for you.

Final Verdict on Shred JYM fat burner

Following the above review, I’ve rated this product a higher than average 3.5 out of 5 stars.

The product price is competitive and the ingredients and their doses are clear on the label.

Shred Jym fat burner contains some proven, natural ingredients like green tea, caffeine and cayenne pepper. All of which are thermogenics. The green tea content is sufficiently high in order to achieve fat loss results. However, the cayenne content is very low and it doesn’t contain a high dose of caffeine either.

The other two main ingredients Acetyl-L-carnitine and L-tyrosine are also natural thermogenics. However, there is not as much research evidence showing their effectiveness as there is for green tea or caffeine.

The product claims to act in two ways, both by increasing metabolism and suppressing appetite. However, the only appetite suppressant in the formula is cayenne pepper and amount of this is very low.

The US formula contains a small dose of synephrine. This would be better if left out, due to its negative press of possibly causing some serious side effects.

I’ve also found genuine looking customer reviews on Youtube and found engagement around this product on social media sites like Instagram which is a good sign of an effective product.

So all in all, this is not a bad product. However, it could be improved by adding some well-researched, natural appetite suppressants like glucomannan and leaving out the synephrine from the US formula.
